Interesting things...
???Ever heard of???

Melissa holding a BOOMWHACKER

How about the ...
...ever heard of that??? ... No, it's not a space capsule!!
The BOD POD is used for determining percent fat and fat-free mass in adults and children. The simple 5-minute test consists of measuring the subject's mass (weight) using a very accurate electronic scale, and volume which is determined by sitting inside the BOD POD chamber. From these two measurements the subject's body composition is calculated.
Here are more pics & clips from the PHAST (Physical Health Activity Study Team) research testing at Brock University of which Jordan is a participant. Last year I didn't think to bring along a camera so this time I did (I'm not sure Jordan was too thrilled) ...
This week Jordan also has to wear an accelerometer (i.e. glorified step-counter) and next week an RN will come to the house to do a cholesterol blood test and pick up the accelerometer. We also had several questionnaire forms to fill out ... ugh. The only reason Jordan is a willing participant in all of this is because he gets paid to do it. I'm not sure if it continues next year, but he can change his mind about participating anytime he wants to. Anyway, it's sort of interesting.

Melissa's Clay Slug
The other day we watched the animated movie, "Flushed Away" (which is hilarious by the way!) ... in the special features they had a segment on how to make a clay slug, so Melissa got out her clay and this is how her slug turned out ...

Looking for sunshine...hoping for Spring
This is Melissa's sundial she made for school, or rather Harv made for Melissa for school :) ... you know how that is ...
What is a sundial?? A sundial is a device that measures time by the position of the Sun ... it's a simple timekeeping device in which the shadow cast by a vertical pole or plate (the gnomon) is used to indicate the time of day.
As for the weather ... we have had some nicer, warmer days lately, still chilly for me but at least not sub-zero temperatures ... some rain too and even fog this morning (feels like London, England). We wait longingly for more sunshine ... but I think Spring is here, or at least it's just around the corner ... hopefully :)

The last of the GOLD...
By "gold" I mean farmer sausage! We absolutely LOVE farmer sausage and the only kind we like comes from out west (Manitoba & Saskatchewan). We would eat it every week if we could but since it is not readily available here we only have it 2 or 3 times a year at best. That's why I call it gold ~ 'cause it is literally SO precious to us. So far we have not come across any sausage around here that comes even close to what Harv and I grew up with, unless we drive about 6 hours round trip to get it (it could be worth it!). We especially like Winkler sausage but we've tried some of the homemade varieties that are equally, maybe even more tasty. Sometimes we've brought back sausage with us when we've been out west, but that's always in the summer so it's tricky to preserve it for the whole trip and it's a hassle. When my parents come to visit they often bring us some farmer sausage, especially if they fly. In fact they brought us some just last summer (2008) and I have to admit I've been hoarding most of it in the freezer until now. Finally...this week we ate the last of it, which actually ended up being enough for two meals. It was soooooo yummy ... but now it's all gone :(

By the way those are not homemade perogies. I do not make perogies. Besides, Rachelle can't eat them if they contain milk ingredients or eggs. At the grocery store I have found a brand that she can eat ~ they're potato & bacon and they're actually quite tasty.

Get Ready ... again!
Above, Old OM Canada Office (still being used)
Below, New OM Office Building

This week, starting TONIGHT, OM Canada is having a Get Ready conference which goes until Sunday ... we usually hold two per year (March & October). I'm not sure on the exact number of people coming this time. Everyone on the team helps out & participates in various ways ... hosting guests, doing meals, providing snacks for coffee breaks, interviewing, leading sessions, etc. There's always LOTS to organize for the individuals heading it up. Should be great fun, though! :) It's always exciting & thrilling to see more people going out and serving the Lord in World Missions ~ OM provides plenty of opportunity for both short-term and long-term missions.
HEY! ... What about YOU?? :)
