Welcome to "our little corner of the earth!" We hope you enjoy your visit as you take a few moments to share in what's happening in our lives. God bless!
Melissa had a great time up at Camp Kahquah last week ... with Rachelle as her cabin leader!! The theme of their week was "Mission Impossible." Melissa's favorite part was campfire where they sang lots of fun songs and had crazy skits. She also enjoyed making new friends. Throughout the week they could choose from a long list of activities such as canoeing, swimming, crafts, hiking, etc. So it was a fun-packed week involving all sorts of theme-related games and activities, worshipping in the "Underground" and learning more about Jesus through God's Word. As they looked at the miracles of Jesus they learned how with God everything is possible!
Just an update on Rachelle ... she is really enjoying her time counselling at camp. Thank you so much for your prayers for her! Two weeks down and two weeks to go! Her first week they had the youngest age group which presented some obvious challenges. The second week was really busy with a lot of planned activities so I'm sure that was exhausting as well. Rachelle's activity major as a leader has been canoeing which she enjoys a lot. Anyway, overall it seems to be going well so far and Rachelle loves it up there. Somehow the leaders get the energy they need to keep going ... Jesus gives them the power! :) By the way, if you are interested it's not too late to contribute toward Rachelle's financial support through the SEND-CONNECT program ~ the deadline is August 31st. Cheques can be made out to Camp Kahquah and mailed to 1230A Nipissing Road, Magnetawan, ON, P0A 1P0. Just indicate that you learned about the CONNECT program through Rachelle. Thank you :)
Rachelle's (and Karen's) cabin of girls ~ week one
For the rest of us at home ... last week was VBSPower Lab at our church which was very exciting and fun. Jordan and I were Co-Crew Leaders and Sonja was involved in the daily opening skit. I suppose camp and VBS are very similar in many ways, although 3 hours a day for five days was wearing enough for me :) ... so I don't know how I would survive camp! I did work at a Bible camp one summer about 20 years ago and I do remember it being exhausting. Anyway, we had a great week at POWER LAB!! Basically the week was all about fun science experiments and relating them to the message of God's Word through various miracles and events in Jesus' life. There was lots of singing, crafts, snacks, games, Bible stories and activities as well as "Cinema Science" featuring Chadder the chipmunk. By the end of the week what we all learned is that JESUS GIVES US THE POWER ... to be thankful, to help others, to be brave, to live forever and to tell others about God. "AHA!" Check out this video and see for yourself ... Scientific Sonja and Professor Wilbur in action, our theme song The Power, a short slideshow and a clip of Jordan doing a really cool experiment!
